Join Us in Supporting Raleigh Rescue Mission

It is somehow a week away from Thanksgiving and the end of the year is quickly approaching. It seems that time only gets quicker through the remaining weeks of the year. In light of that, we have recently written about smart year-end money moves, Medicare enrollment, and employer open enrollment. These articles are worth reading (if applicable to you) to check off items before the calendar turns and are helpful nudges and suggestions we make to better your financial life.

The brief today comes with an ask: join us in supporting Raleigh Rescue Mission. You may recall that this is something we have done for a few years now and it is something at the core of our mission statement: make money a blessing. I will start with the ask and then talk about the why. These are the ways that you can join us in supporting RRM:

Donate Items. Raleigh Rescue Mission has created an Amazon wish list with items that are most urgently needed. If you click on the link, you can purchase as many items as you like and either have them delivered to our office (1633 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27608), or you can drop them off here yourself (it’s always good to have an excuse to see you!).

Donate CashHere is a link for you to give quickly and easily, and, of course, you can also use tools like Donor Advised Funds and Qualified Charitable Distributions out of your IRA.

We’ll be collecting gifts from now through December 13th. Our Holiday Open House will be that last day (Dec. 13th) if you would like to drop off when you visit. We plan to drop off any items that have been delivered to our office shortly after. If you have any questions on logistics or how you might be able to partner with us, please don’t hesitate to reach out to anyone on the Beacon team.

In Raleigh and Wake County alone, there are over 6,000 individuals seeking services related to homelessness. There are over 5,600 homeless children attending Wake County schools. These numbers have rapidly increased over the last decade and are expected to continue to rise in the years to come. There are nearly 100,000 individuals in poverty that are at risk of being homeless. I encourage you to read RRM’s The New Life Plan that details how they walk through different phases with individuals and to read the stories of a few of the people that have been impacted. This, of course, isn’t a problem solely unique to Raleigh or North Carolina. But, with this being our local community, I think it is important for us to focus on how we can serve our neighbors. We would love for you to join us in support of Raleigh Rescue Mission.

With it being the week before Black Friday and the frenzy of Christmas shopping, it is a great time to pause and reflect on where you are in your own financial life and determine if you would like to give financially or in other capacities. Jared wrote a great brief a few years ago titled ‘What’s the point of giving your money away?’ It is a nice reminder of the why of giving. Please consider joining us in remembering giving at this time of the year. If you are a Beacon client and need help with the financial or tax angle, do not hesitate to reach out.

Originally from Alabama, my wife, Megan, and I moved to Raleigh a few years ago. I went to The University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) where I majored in Finance with a specialization in Personal Wealth Management. I love all things sports (you will most often find me playing pickleball), urban planning, and spending time enjoying the whole Triangle.
