Help Us Support Raleigh Rescue Mission

It’s hard to believe but the Holidays are here and 2023 will soon draw to a close. The end of the year and the Holiday season is a time when many people do the majority of their charitable giving. Here at Beacon, we have the privilege of talking with lots of folks about giving and helping them live out their charitable wishes. It’s one of the ways we fulfill our mission of helping make money a blessing. In fact, one of the things that is so great about charitable giving is that it can actually be a blessing twice. Not only can a thoughtful gift dramatically impact the life of the recipient, but it can also meaningfully impact the life of the person doing the giving. Somehow, when we give generously, it helps us get out from under that tight grip that money can so often exert upon us. It’s hard to feel anxious and generous at the same time.

With that in mind, we invite you to join us in partnering with the Raleigh Rescue Mission this holiday season. Did you know that in Wake County alone, there are over 6,000 individuals homeless and seeking services, 4,700 children homeless and attending Wake County schools, and 95,200 individuals in poverty and at risk of being homeless? Raleigh Rescue Mission has recognized that need and has been offering hope and help to those who find themselves homeless and hurting for over 60 years.  Through their New Life Plan, Raleigh Rescue Mission addresses the needs of their homeless clients by first providing for basic needs such as food, clothing, hygiene, and healthcare and then progressing through a series of programs that include counseling, parenting classes, vocational training, obtaining a car to make employment options wider, and then gaining employment and moving into their own apartment or home. It’s a wonderful program but, of course, it requires resources.

Here are two ways you can join us and RRM in working to address homelessness:

  1. Donate Items. Raleigh Rescue Mission has created an Amazon wish list with items that are most urgently needed. If you click on the bolded link, you can purchase as many items as you like and either have them delivered to our office (1633 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27608), or you can drop them off here yourself (it’s always good to have an excuse to see you!).
  2. Donate CashHere is a link for you to give quickly and easily, and, of course, you can also use tools like Donor Advised Funds and Qualified Charitable Distributions out of your IRA.

We’ll be collecting gifts from December 1st through December 15th. We plan to drop off any items that have been delivered to our office shortly after. If you have any questions on logistics or how you might be able to partner with us, please don’t hesitate to send me an email at [email protected].

We at Beacon are thankful to have you as part of our family. Partnering with you in this way is important to us and we are humbled by the opportunity. Thank you! We’re looking forward to giving together with you in the coming weeks.

My wife, Crystal, and I have been married for 11 years and have two kids, Cooper (10) and Rhodes (8.) When I’m not spending time with them you might find me downtown serving at our church, pushing my limits during a mountain bike ride or having coffee with a friend in the Five Points area. I've been a financial advisor for 29 years and I'm thankful for the privilege of shepherding my family of clients through the ups and down of the markets, and of life for that matter.
